The first “fall retreat” took place on October 20-24, 2021, and was a new venue for us. It accommodated a small group. (Parking was limited to 12 cars.) The Cary Quilting Company publicizes this retreat venue, and the Lake Gaston retreat site provides pricing and lots of pictures and details.
Pictures and description from Amy:
The trip to Lake Gaston was a beautiful country drive. We found the lake house was just over the VA state line. We discovered a few quilt shops along the way – Quilt Lizzy was a short detour through Warrenton and Sherry’s Sew What was local to the lake house.
Once settled, we were able to enjoy the lovely views of the lake from our sewing tables. The sunset wowed us along with a glimpse of a pair of eagles. The rolling hills provided a challenging walk for those who wanted to stretch their legs. And the deck and screened in porch were popular places for morning coffee, a snack or just a little fresh air. We took turns preparing meals. Gail and Joyce (Gail’s friend from Michigan) spoiled us with their culinary skills and Ann kept us entertained with a variety of games. More pictures from Amy.
Story from Ann A.
The Lake Gaston Retreat was attended by eight adventurous quilters. We saw the pictures online and drooled at the beautiful view and accommodations. We were not disappointed. We even found and visited a couple of quilt shops while we were there or on the way.
Although we had to cook our own meals and clean up afterwards, we got a lot of sewing done. We finished several quilt tops as well as several small items.
We enjoyed the beautiful view from our sewing machine, the deck, and boat dock. Daily walks were a workout, but peaceful. Most of all we all enjoyed the camaraderie. – Ann A.
